The different Tire Patterns for Car and 4x4 Tires are as follows:

Normal
|
Directional
|
Asymmetrical
|
Normal - An everyday type tire for around town and touring. Usually a more comfortable ride.
Directional - Generally a performance type tire. Good steering response and handling but a firmer ride.
Asymmetrical - Generally a performance type tire. Good steering response and especially cornering.

4x4 Tires
|
4x4 Tires is further classified into HT,AT and MT;
HT - Highway Terrain. Recommended for highway or tarmac driving. Usually a quieter drive.
AT - All Terrain. Dual purpose. Can be used for highway, tarmac and off-road driving.
MT - Mud Terrain. For off-road driving. Not recommended for highway or tarmac driving.
